RIP Amanda Todd

October 11, 2012
Yesterday, Amanda Todd committed suicide due to bullying. I didn't know her, but many of my friends did, so the shockwaves are hitting everyone through social media right now. #RIPAmanda is trending on Twitter at the moment. This shit needs to stop. Not only do people need to start showing more respect for their fellow human beings, but I also very strongly believe many people need to learn to stop allowing other people to affect them in this way. When somebody judges me, I feel sorry for them since it's really their issues, not mine. Nothing anyone says can bring me down or affect me since I know that fact.

Yes, we need to put bullies in counselling, but even more important would be putting the victims into counselling and also basic psychotherapy sessions so they can begin to ignore bullies and start realizing that words cannot affect them unless they let them.

What other people say about you is never important, how you react to what they say about you is the only thing that actually matters. When people realize this fact, it doesn't matter how much they get "bullied" since it doesn't affect their mindsets anymore.

That being said, it can be very difficult to deal with more physical bullying, or with what Amanda had to deal with as well. In her case, the bully should not only get counselling, but also jailtime. While we may never be able to stop bullies, we CAN at least stop letting their words affect people, and this helps stop it from escalating.. Here's Amanda's video from just a few weeks ago. Just such a sad sad sad situation. :(
